Can You Open the Boot With a Cargo Box Fitted?
On most cars, YES!
The tailgate swings up and over the box as it opens and never touches it at all. On some cars it doesn't clear, so there's a measurement that settles it for yours in about a minute.
The measurement
Lay a rigid ruler or a tape measure flat on top of the towing hook, pointing upward. Open the back door slowly and watch where it passes the ruler. That reading is your clearance — what the measuring guide calls B2.
Then read it off:
- 24 cm or more — the boot opens with the box fitted.
- 12 to 24 cm — it will usually open, though this is the band where it varies from model to model.
- Under 12 cm — it won't.

If your boot doesn't open
If your boot won't open, you can simply lift the box off. It's a straightforward job that takes less than a minute.
You'll reach for the boot less than you expect
Most boots open easily anyway, and a rear cargo box changes how you use yours. It's convenient enough that you won't reach for the boot as often as you do now — and muddy, wet gear can go straight into the box instead of ruining your interior.
